174Libya is perhaps the hardest Arab country in which to find any trace of its Jewish past. In the 1940s, a quarter of Tripoli was Jewish. Libya’s Jewish presence dates back more than 2000 years, but none remain in the country today and nearly every physical sign of their existence has been erased.

@diasporaexpeditions co-founder @agheffez was the first Jewish visitor to return to the Yefren Synagogue in Libya in several decades. Yefren is a small town in the Nafusa Mountains of northwestern Libya, where Jews lived continuously for over 2,000 years and at times made up at least half of the population.
