Flashback to January 20, 2009, at the Obama inauguration, where I managed to attend the exclusive “Google Ball” without an invite. While there, I made new connections and met Sir Richard Branson and Elon Musk, who shared details about an electric car company he was launching. Musk gave me his email, and I followed up, hoping to assist with Tesla’s location rollout. Though that opportunity didn’t materialize, four years later, I successfully brokered the Virgin Hotel in Chicago. You never know who you’ll meet or when, but it’s crucial to stay sharp, listen, and find ways to provide value.
