At the time, I was living what many would call a 'successful' life. I was at the top of my profession, had notoriety, owned a house, drove exotic cars, traveled the world, and surrounded myself with luxury and fleeting relationships.
But my life had become repetitive-another night, another stage, another loop around a carousel of familiar faces.
Despite all the external markers of success, I had stopped growing.
Wandering alone through the expansiveness of the desert during my first Burn, I was struck by the beauty around me.
But there was also a deep sadnessโa realization that despite all I had achieved, I was experiencing it without true connection. My life had been full but not deep.
Over the years, I returned to the playa many times, but this time, ten years after my first Burn, everything felt different. I arrived with a profound sense of family and love surrounding me. The desert had remained the same, but I had changed.
The journey, once about escape, had become about connection.
Home isn't a place. It's the people you share it with.

Ten years ago, I got an unexpected call from @hello_janey, who told me she had an RV, a bike, and a ticket for me to join her and her friends at@Burningman. It was just one week before the event, and while I was already going to be in San Francisco the day before, I made the bold decision to cancel all my other plans and head into the desert.
