Sonia is a young mother of two sons and one deceased daughter, all of whom carry the diagnosis of Marfan’s syndrome. Sonia has a history of multiple cardiac operations, beginning with an aortic dissection. I first operated on Sonia, back in New York City, at Mount Sinai Hospital, when I was Director of Aortic Surgery. Yesterday, my team and I covered the rest of her diseased aorta in her chest with a thoracic stent graft (her fourth procedure). It was necessary because her aorta, past the area of her last surgery repair, was rapidly enlarging and could burst at any time. Sonia is from New Jersey, but flew to Florida for this procedure and can safely fly back home tomorrow! When i was in NYC, I also operated on both of her sons, by reconstructing the first portion of their aortas, prior to them having the fatal complication (acute aortic dissection) unfortunately experienced by their sister. Both boys are dlong extremely well!

This young guy had a promising future as an NFL lineman, until he was found to have an aortic root aneurysm and a leaking bicuspid valve. we were able to eliminate all diseased aorta and rebuild his own valve, eliminating the leak. He is now free to pursue his@life@with no limitations.
