When you’re waiting at the doctor’s office, waiting in the school pick up line, on your lunch break, or even let’s be honest - going to the bathroom. What’s one of the first things we do? We pull out our phone and scroll, check up on emails, online shop, or catch up on returning messages.
We have become so reliant on productivity and distraction that it has become second nature to us. We’re all doing it...it’s so uncommon to see someone else in a waiting room just staring into space or taking in the surroundings. We are all locked in our electronic devices.
Instead of allowing our minds to wander, to be present, to process, we consume more information. This week on #MarginMondays I invite you to create space for YOU. The next time you have that knee jerk reaction to pull out your phone and distract, numb, or consume more, pause, and let yourself just be. Maybe at first it will feel awkward and uncomfortable, but maybe with some practice you’ll find these few moments of stillness can make you feel more relaxed and recharged.
If you give it a try, let us know where and how it felt for you!

The good news? Awareness is the starting point for change.
When we create margins—moments to pause, breathe, and reflect—we make space for intentional parenting. Instead of repeating old patterns, we can choose a new path forward. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and it won’t always happen in the heat of the moment. Sometimes, the reflection comes after. That’s okay—it’s part of the cycle-breaking process.
So today, if you feel the pull of autopilot, try this:
✨ Take a deep breath.
✨ Feel your feet on the ground.
✨ Ask yourself: “What kind of parent do I want to be right now?”
Small shifts add up over time, creating a legacy of connection and compassion. And if you’re feeling stuck, know that you don’t have to navigate this alone. If you’re a parent in California or Nevada, visit the link in our bio to see how one of our therapists can support you in this work.
Change starts with one mindful moment. You’ve got this. 💛

Have you ever noticed how attached we’ve become to distractions? Think about it...

Generational patterns often surface in our hardest parenting moments—when we’re stretched thin, overwhelmed, or triggered by our kids’ big emotions. In those moments, it’s easy to default to the reactions we grew up with—yelling, shutting down, or rushing to control. These automatic responses may not align with the parent we aspire to be, but they often feel like all we know.
