But Ewen is my greatest blessing, my biggest reason and my whole, entire heart. I wouldnāt be Ruby without him, in fact I wonder if any part of me would have been the same without him. Heās shaped me, inside and out. Carved the wirings of my brain, the pathways of my heart.
Heās the reason I see the world the way I see it, the reason I never ever give up on someone struggling. The reason my heart beats, the reason I love, the reason I walk, the reason I breathe.
It all comes back to him.
My parents didnāt have a choice when it came to having a second child (Ewen was diagnosed two weeks before I was born š) And thank god they didnāt. Thank god.

15Itās important to highlight that not every sibling feels this way. And that is okay.
Resentment, anger, anxiety & disappointment are normal, day to day emotions for a sibling lost in the shadow of their brother or sister.
Our parents did their very, very best to protect both Ewen and I from the difficulties someone so complex in the family can create. But inevitably, thereās only so much protecting they can do.
Iām a lucky one.

When people ask me; how much does Ewen understand? I often feel stumped at the question. Because in so many aspects, we would say heās around 2 years old mentally.

Not a single day in my life have I been forced to look after Ewen. My love, drive and passion to care for him has been in my nature since before i could talk.
