This post has been a long time coming.
It's taken me 7 months and a lot of courage to share this with all of you because I was in denial that this had actually happened to me. It was so traumatic that I wasn't able to process it well until recently. Instagram is a platform to post your life's highlights, however no one ever sees your struggles.
As some of you may know, I was in a terrible car crash this past January. After climbing out of a burning car, I was hospitalized for one month in 2 different hospitals. During this time I underwent 6 skin surgeries to deal with the 2nd and 3rd degree burns — still to this day am undergoing treatments for my injuries & scars.
It took me days and weeks to finally reach out of my loved ones about what happened to me because I was in shock. I played it off like everything was okay because I am a resilient person. But it wasn't.
Even strong people have their weak moments. There were mental breakdowns. Tears shed. PTSD. The nightmares. The amount of pills they prescribed me. And all the wigs I wore to feel normal.
It was a truly life altering experience. The only way out was through. That meant truly feeling *alllll* of the pain and emotions because you can't let something go if it hasn't been acknowledged.
I've gained an immense gratitude for the darkness, for I learned more about myself than I could ever have imagined. This experience showed
