In ancient wisdom, this is understood as tapping into one of the core mitzvot (a connecting action): honoring our parents.
We do this to bring their soul presence into the world, and as an energetic protection over the new soul.
Now modern researchers have discovered that when we say the name of someone we loved who has died out loud, we activate the same neural pathways that once connected us.
The pathways built through love, safety, touch, and belonging.
Neuroscience shows these attachment circuits remain encoded in the nervous system long after loss, and naming reactivates them, signaling continuity rather than absence.
Saying their name out loud reminds our nervous system that while they are no longer here physically, their love signal still is, and that their essence lives on through us and through those we name for them.
This isn’t sentimentality. It’s science and spirituality meeting at the level of the nervous system.
Another moment where modern research quietly catches up to ancient Jewish wisdom.
Up next - did Judaism describe evolution thousands of years before modern science made us believe?

Stay tuned to see who shows up at my sweet girls baby naming in the hilarious adventure that is being Orthodox Jews in the middle of nowhere!

postpartum is a uniquely vulnerable time for our bodies are hormones our mental state, our emotional state and our family systems
even in the best scenarios, it doesn’t feel like our systems are set up for deep support of all those levels of need
I learned many things during my postpartum recovery and during postpartum anxiety, recovery, and a lot of of them are in this song
One of my favorites is that repetition is what brings mastery
So if you feel awkward and embarrassingly bad at certain mothering tasks, like putting them to bed or feeding them, it’s simply a product of time and repetition, not a personal or moral failing
The more times I put my baby in and out of the car seat the less scary it is
The more times I calm her successfully the more I failed master at it
I hope you’ll send this to whichever Mama friends need it wherever they are in their postpartum or watch it yourself. If you were a postpartum mom and know that so many in fact, more likely, the majority of us struggle in this phase to find our identities and that it can take many months to recalibrate ourselves…
You will get there❤️❤️❤️
