There’s something so unexpectedly special about this little wine window tucked into the streets of Florence — you could easily walk past it without noticing, but once you do, it feels like discovering a secret the city has been quietly keeping.

This particular buchetta del vino @bucadellorafofirenze is one of many scattered throughout Florence, small arched openings built directly into historic walls where, even today, you can be handed a glass of wine through a tiny window. It’s simple, a little surreal, and somehow one of the coolest experiences in the city.

These wine windows date back to the 1600s, when noble families used them to sell wine directly from their homes. It allowed them to avoid taxes and contact during times of plague, a practical solution that turned into something uniquely Florentine. And centuries later, many of them have been reopened, bringing that tradition back to life.

There’s something about knocking on a centuries-old wall and being handed a glass of wine that makes you feel connected to the past in the most effortless way.
