They want the best for you. You want the best for you.
But sometimes their best for you and your best for you aren’t the same thing.
And sometimes, you have to let their dreams die for yours to live.
It’s not saying “I don’t love you.”
It’s saying “I love my dream for me more than yours.”
Intelligence is separating an idea from a person. Being able to love one and hate the other.
At the end of the day, the only person who’s dream for you matters - is your own.
Everything I have is because of my father. If he hadn’t come to the US with $1000 to start a life, I wouldn’t here where I am today. In that way, I owe him everything.
But owing everything and doing everything as a result of that debt are different things. And it was one I had to come to terms with as I aged up.
My father had and still has my eternal respect. And in many ways, I think what he accomplished/overcame in his life is much harder and more impressive than what I have.
I hope you share this message with anyone who you think might need to hear it (as I did, many years ago).

And thank you for never trying to change me. It shows me more respect than anything you could ever say.

I know we’re month to month to keep us on our toes - so I’ll cast my vote here - anotha one!
246The problem is, most times, the more you get to know people, the less you do.
The varnish fades.
But the opposite is true with you.
You’re one of the few people where the more you get to know them the more you admire them.
Your work ethic.
Your selflessness.
Your empathy.
Your judgment.
Your fierce loyalty.
These are all things I learn from you everyday. And they are the reasons I admire you. Ways I’d like to grow more like you.
In our lives, you are the glue. You create space for people to be themselves. And as a result, everyone wants as much of that as they can. So everyone naturally assembles around you.
And as far as “leading from the front” - I don’t think it’s an accurate descriptor for what it’s like.
You lead from the middle because you bring everyone closer together.
And the world still doesn’t get it - and maybe they never will.
They see you as some woman business creator. Which is whatever.
But the people who know, know that you’re the reason we have what we have. You are - and have always been the heart - of everything we do. In the middle. Like gravity. Drawing everyone together.
And - being the winner that you are - on your birthday we have a full work day with podcasts and meetings lined up. And you forgot it was your birthday. Because everything you do has never been about you. It’s been about everyone else.
And that’s why we love you so much.

Happy anniversary @leilanhormozi I would give you a love post. But…I think Megan Thee Stallion described you best in her seminal work “Savage Remix”:

You wanna marry someone who you admire.
The problem is, most times, the more you get to know people, the less you do.
