I am black. And I am queer. And dammit I deserve to live in a world where I’m not afraid for my life walking down the street (day or night)... because someone in the majority or in a position of power sees my skin tone and feels threatened. I’ve been racially profiled in West Hollywood and thrown in a police car. I’ve been called the N-Word (with a hard ER) two blocks from my apartment on the way to the grocery store. My skin and body parts are fetishized. I’ve been called threatening in meetings at previous places of work when I’m simply trying to get my point across. Meanwhile the Brads and Karens of the world get to roll their eyes and raise their voices and they’re just “passionate” about their work. I go out of my way to make noise behind an older white person to alert them of my presence. And I’ve queened it up in front of police officers in order to appear less threatening. And then... almost daily... I’m hit with video of people who look like me begging and pleading for their lives while being hunted down... and paying the ultimate price. Innocent or not, death is not a sentence to be doled out by those who are there to protect and serve. I am Black. I am queer. I am fucking exhausted. White allies, y’all have to talk to yourselves, your friends, your folks back home. Check your privilege. Use your privilege. I’m spent. the only words I can say are: thank you. 🥹❤️ I know they say numbers don't matter. but those numbers equal amazing you humans who have supported me and my art. And amazingly every year these numbers get bigger and bigger. This year has been an incredible music year for me. But bayyybyyyyy... I've been working on a sound with a 'new attitude.'
