At the center of my investigation is Momcilo Djujic, a Serbian warlord convicted of multiple war crimes who fled sentencing and settled in Southern California. He helped organize the postwar emigration of his Chetnik Dinara Division to Southern California. Some of these men would later become founders of this California Serbian church. Djujicโs Dinara Division has been documented by historians as responsible for major war crimes against Bosnian and Croat civilians during WWII.
When I first uncovered this, I thought that was the end of the story. But that was only the beginning of what I had discovered.
From California, Djujic organized the Ravna Gora Chetnik movement, a network that spread across at least three continents, including chapters across multiple cities in the United States. The group remains active today.

Did you know that the famous term โethnic cleansingโ was originally used as a form of genocidal denial by Serbian Chetnik war criminals? โEthnic cleansingโ is not a crime and has no legal implications. When accused of committing genocide in Bosnia and Kosovo, Serbian war criminals responded with โno, weโre just doing a little bit of ethnic cleansing here.โ It was a very strategic move considering it quickly became a favorite term in Western media which downplayed genocide, and stopped any international intervention during Bosniaโs genocide.
