Me, Tanya, Aviva and Dolly had made it our gathering place to drink cheap and listen to rock n roll.
The night needed programming as Wednesdays are notoriously slow. There had been some attempts at having GoGo dancers with bands and DJ nights, but a full-blown burlesque cabaret had yet to exist on the soiled stage.
We loved The Cramps. We spent most nights remarking how undeniably sexy their song catalogue was. Perfect for our perverted and playful minds to dream up not just an event, an all around experience.
So @pwwednesdays began. It was a night dedicated to queer, unpolished, imperfect expressions of authenticity. Our little show grew quickly from a local night (humbly attended), where I hosted from behind the bar, half naked with a wireless mic in one hand and my other knuckles-deep in someones draft beer order to a packed-house affair. We expanded to include our Rock n Roll tribute nights “Wham Bam” and the most recent “Mash Up Bash Up” shows that feature a fusion of familiar sounds.
Our performance roster is a tight knit family. Even our guest performers are forever family. Between the Dancing Chicken and the famous Hands-free spaghetti eating contests, we’d crafted a new definition for all things “weird”. Casting for this show has always been about a shared philosophy.
