We welcomed Their Royal Majesties to the Freedom Tower, an enduring symbol of opportunity that has welcomed generations of newcomers whose entrepreneurial spirit helped build Miami. As they toured our Libertad exhibit, they learned about the people and the stories that have made Miami such a special place in America.
In his remarks, King Willem-Alexander highlighted Miami’s dynamism and innovation, values embodied by Miami Dade College as we educate the next generation of Miamians ready to drive the continued transformation of our city.
Bedankt, your royal majesties, for your visit! 🇳🇱 🇺🇸

This film felt personal. It beautifully traces the @miamifreedomtower’s journey, from its early days as the home of this community’s first newspaper, to its defining role as the Cuban Refugee Center, and its future as a restored cultural hub, now part of Miami Dade College, where new generations connect with the history that shaped our community.
The team went beyond the surface, mining the @wolfsonarchives for rare footage that traces the Tower’s evolution, and capturing intimate testimonies from voices like Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Willy Chirino, our faculty and alumni, and voices such as Rafael Peñalver and Silvia Iriondo, who first walked through its doors as newly arrived refugees. The film also lifts up the stories of the Mas and Martin families, who helped ensure the Tower continued its legacy.
We’re deeply grateful to Gloria and the entire Telemundo 51 team for telling this story with such care, heart, and authenticity.

As we continue the @miamifilm Film Festival, we were truly moved by the debut of “Los 100 años de la Torre de la Libertad”, a @telemundo51 documentary co-directed by our very own MDC Alumni Hall of Famer, @gloritaordaz.
