Reacting to the sentencing of Vladimir Putin critic Vladimir Kara-Murza who was jailed for 25 years, the European Union (EU) called the ruling "harsh" and "politically motivated". "This is unacceptable. This is yet another demonstration by Russian authorities of the political misuse of judiciary in order to pressurise activists and human rights defenders," EU spokesperson Peter Stano said.
