1. Master the Basics
Goalkeeping is like a long staircase, not an elevator.
You must take step one, followed by two and so forth…
There is not elevator to the top by pushing a single button.
You HAVE TO learn the basic in order to get advanced. So start early. Lay the foundation for a rock castle, not a straw house.
2. Develop a strong mindset
By mindset, I mean your ability to deal with both good & bad situations in a way that makes you grow. Understand that there is no such thing as a good or bad experience.
You win, or you learn. You never actually Lose. It’s all about how you frame it.
Mindset is 99% of the game.
3. Enjoy the game
If you want to win big, you will have to play for a long time.
And the only way to play for a long time is to actually enjoy what you are doing.
What you don’t enjoy, you will eventually quit.
Therefore, make it fun, make it challenging, make it social, make it interesting. Do whatever is in your hands to make playing goalkeeper as fun as it can be.
4. Don’t hesitate
You know that feeling you sometimes get. Just knowing what you should do, what choice to make, or how to deal with a challenging situation? It is called intuition. Instinct.
Trust it.
It is actually the first thought that comes to mind, and more often than not, it is right.
When we hesitate we let that analytical part of our mind get in the way. The danger is in ending up somewher
