Dr. Orlando Owoh (born Stephen Oladipupo Olaore Owomoyela, 14 February 1932 – 4 November 2008) was one of Nigeria’s most iconic highlife musicians. Known for his raw, socially conscious lyrics and unique fusion of Yoruba rhythms with traditional highlife, he earned the title “The Doctor of Music.”
Over a career spanning decades, Orlando Owoh founded the African Kenneries International Band and released classics such as Alantere, Iyawo Olele, and Money for Hand, Back for Ground. His songs spoke directly to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians, blending humor, social commentary, and cultural pride.
Survived by 14 children, his legacy lives on through the Orlando Owoh Foundation which now manages his catalog
