History has a way of sanding people down to make them easier to remember and digest. But some legacies don’t fit in neat lines, and they shouldn’t.
Jeremiah Wright didn’t preach for comfort. He preached for truth. For dignity. For a people who had to fight to be seen and heard in a country that often preferred silence over honesty.
Reverend Wright’s legacy lives in the questions he forced us to ask, the pride he demanded we carry, and the courage he called out of people who had every reason to be quiet.
Some men occupy rooms.
Others build the people who eventually walk into them.
He is truly a giant. Love you, Daddy J!

It’s a honor and a blessing to give Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. his flowers while he can smell them and to say his name while he can hear it by presenting him a resolution the Illinois House passed honoring him. I’m grateful for his friendship and his mentorship and in my life he’s been a voice of reason, comfort, the man who baptized me and my spiritual steward.
