quilt/tapestry piece i made documenting my transition from the earliest moments until now. swipe for detail pics

this piece includes a replica of the first “binder” i made for myself out of an old t-shirt and a shoelace, one of my first actual binders from gc2b, my surgery binder that still has the piece of tape my partner affixed to help with the rubbing from the velcro, drains from top surgery as well as the nipple bolsters. all adorned with my blood, body fluids, random body goop, and even some stray armpit hairs. also a very distinct smell. and my hospital sock, not sure where the second one is.

also included in this piece are all forms of testosterone that i’ve been on, testim gel, androgel, and a linocut print of my xyosted autoinjector.

there’s two self portraits, one in graphite from early in my transition, and one cyanotype from more recently. this piece was my first time doing cyanotype!

i’ve been reflecting a lot on my surgery and the recovery period, especially with my six months post op being yesterday. stayed up until 4am working on this, it was really nice to culminate this all into a physical piece 💌🌱

i asked trans & nonbinary people to choose a word that they felt connected to or encompassed their gender and their relationship to their transness. i then tattooed these words on their backs as an immortal memoriam to their identities.
