The empathy others don’t see 🪽

Pretending you didn’t see
or hear something
so the other person
doesn’t feel uncomfortable.

Choosing to truly listen
when no one else is paying attention,
so they don’t feel ignored
or unimportant.

This is a level of empathy
not everyone will understand.

What did not kill me 🪽

What did not kill me
made me cry
in public transport.

What did not kill me
killed the love
I had in me.

What did not kill me
made me wish
for death
at times.

What did not kill me
stayed with me,
clawed at my heart,
burned through my soul,
and yet
I continue
to live with it.
