When the businesses I founded were acquired by Berkshire Hathaway, it was never about the transaction. What mattered most was knowing those businesses would be stewarded by one of the finest organizations in the world for decades to come. That alone meant everything to me.
With Warren retiring at 95 just days ago, I’ve been reflecting on what I learned from him, first by studying his work and later by working alongside him.
The lessons were simple, but they last:
• Build businesses meant to last
• Take care of people first
• Do the right thing, even when it’s hard
• Protect your reputation above all else
• Think long-term
Those lessons will stay with me forever, and it brings me real joy to pass them on to others.
I hope I’m still building businesses with purpose when I’m 95.
