Cora has been visiting prisons and the @pawsitivechangeprogram for 6 years now. She leaves a pawsitive streak wherever she goes! Our goal is to believe in our students and give them a sense of belonging, respect and love. We do this because the best way to prepare someone for release is to share emotion and connection with them—to see them as equals with great potential.
98% of our students and those incarcerated at Tehachapi State Prison are coming home one day and we believe in preparing them, so they can have a successful second chance, as opposed to simply incubating them in a horrifically negative and dangerous environment.
Our programs saves, rebuilds and reforms lives, which is why we put so much of ourselves into it!
10Having horses inside a maximum-security prison is something incredibly special. It bridges the gap between human and animal, showing that even in the most unexpected places, healing and growth can occur. The bond formed here is a testament to the profound impact of our Pawsitive Change program, where both trainers and animals learn from each other, creating a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond the prison walls.

Mr. Alvarez spent a few years on our program before dedicating his life to sobriety, Jesus and helping others! He’s been incarcerated for more than 30 years, but has spent the last several focusing on his sobriety; and his ability to help others. After our program, he transferred the OMCP to earn his degree in Substance Abuse Counseling ! His living testimony is remarkable!

In this powerful image, our Pawsitive Change trainers are seen walking together with Buck, one of @equineheartconnection’s beloved horses—each with a hand placed gently on him. This moment is more than just a walk – it’s a symbol of trust, love, and appreciation. For many of the residents at Tehachapi State Prison, this was their first close interaction with a horse in decades. The experience was transformative, bringing a sense of calm and connection that words can hardly capture.
