30On February 5th, I had the absolute honor of being recognized as the Veteran of the Game at the LA Kings hockey game. Standing in front of over 18,000 people who rose to their feet in support, not just for me, but for all the brave men & women who have served this country, was a moment I’ll never forget. It wasn’t about me; it was about all of us who have signed that dotted line, served, sacrificed, & stood ready to defend the freedoms we all cherish.
Growing up as a goalie, I always dreamed of standing between the pipes, singing the national anthem in a packed arena. Life had a different plan. Instead, I played for a different kind of team, the United States Army. And I wouldn’t change that for a damn thing.
The overwhelming love & appreciation from the fans, the LA community, & the incredible LA Kings organization was truly humbling & very emotional. From start to finish, the entire staff & team treated me & my guests with the utmost kindness & class, making this experience even more special.
But beyond honoring those who serve, I was reminded of something just as important, the people who stand beside us every single day. The friends, family, & loved ones who support us, lift us up, & remind us why we do what we do. Their love is the backbone that keeps us moving forward, & I couldn’t have asked for better people to share this night with.
