How to put handles to too much dry clay body

I just finished my beginner pottery bootcamp and here’s the unfiltered breakdown of every piece that came out of that kiln. Some turned out better than I ever expected. Some humbled me completely. All of them taught me something.
The centering alone nearly broke my spirit in the best way — if your clay isn’t perfectly centered on the wheel, nothing that comes after it will be either. Life lesson, honestly.
Size matters. Shrinkage is a thing. 😜
Once I got my pull under control and stopped death-gripping the walls, things started to open up (literally).
There were cracks - classic beginner move, apparently caused by uneven drying or compressing the floor of the piece too little. Noted. The trimming stage was where I finally felt something click — shaving away the excess leather-hard clay and actually seeing the form emerge underneath was chef’s kiss. Very meditative. Google pottery trimming and I guarantee just watching is mesmerizing!
We also worked with some incredible surface techniques — chattering, Mocha Diffusion, and Buncheong-style slip work, all taught by Korean master ceramicist @unhahill whose patience and precision I can only dream of having one day. Watching her work was like watching someone have a quiet conversation with the clay.
